Arkema has announced a significant expansion at its Singapore plant, located on Jurong Island, which is now the world’s largest integrated factory for advanced bio-circular materials. The company will triple its global production capacity for Rilsan® Clear, a high-performance polyamide, by 2026. This expansion supports the growing demand in sectors such as electric mobility, advanced electronics, and consumer goods across Asia.
The Singapore plant has already increased the global production capacity for Rilsan® Polyamide 11 by 50%. This bio-based polymer, derived from castor oil, is used in various applications, including automotive, electronics, and sports equipment, due to its strength, flexibility, and chemical resistance. Thierry Le Hénaff, Arkema’s Chairman and CEO, stated, “This plant marks a strategic milestone in Arkema’s growth in Asia and our long-standing commitment to bio-based high-performance materials.”
The expansion aligns with Arkema’s strategy to make Singapore its hub for advanced materials in Asia. The plant also enhances Arkema’s global supply chain capabilities, supporting its 2028 goal to accelerate growth in sustainable solutions. The investment in the Singapore plant, which amounts to $424m, includes $318m in green bonds, reflecting Arkema’s commitment to sustainability.
The facility has created nearly 200 high-skilled jobs and collaborates with local partners like Nanyang Technological University and Temasek Trust Fund Advisory. This development strengthens Singapore’s speciality chemicals landscape and offers new job opportunities in the region.
