Singapore has been named the top AI-ready nation globally, according to Coursera’s Global Skills Report 2025. The city-state ranks first on the AI Maturity Index and fourth overall in skills proficiency. This achievement is attributed to Singapore’s strategic investments in AI education and innovation, as well as its commitment to workforce preparedness.
The report, which draws on data from over 170 million learners worldwide, shows that 36% of Singapore’s labour force is actively learning on Coursera. This is the highest percentage in the Asia Pacific region and the second-highest globally. Enrolments in AI and machine learning have surged by 71%, whilst critical thinking and cybersecurity have increased by 51% and 26%, respectively.
Eklavya Bhave, Head of Asia Pacific at Coursera, noted, “Singapore continues to set a global benchmark in digital readiness. AI is a clear priority for employers, and learners are stepping up by acquiring GenAI skills to stay ahead.”
Despite these advancements, challenges remain. A significant talent shortage persists, with 83% of employers struggling to find skilled workers. Additionally, only 32% of GenAI learners are women, despite women comprising 45% of the overall learner base on Coursera.
Singapore’s focus on responsible innovation and green skills is also emerging, aligning with its sustainability agenda. As the nation continues to cultivate a digitally mature workforce, ongoing efforts in equitable access, micro-credentials, and lifelong learning will be crucial to addressing these challenges and ensuring a job-ready talent pipeline.
