Visa combats AI-era scams in Singapore with new security roadmap

Visa has introduced its Singapore Security Roadmap 2026 and Beyond, aiming to bolster the security and resilience of the nation’s digital payments ecosystem amidst rising fraud and cyber threats. As digital payments grow, a Visa study revealed that 42% of Singaporeans have encountered scams, highlighting the urgency for enhanced security measures.

The roadmap identifies six strategic priorities to address these challenges:

– Strengthening cybersecurity to anticipate and counter emerging threats.
– Advancing authentication for secure digital experiences.
– Enabling safer transactions through tokenisation, reducing exposure to sensitive data.
– Transforming eCommerce checkout processes to boost consumer confidence.
– Leveraging foundational standards to enhance network performance and security.
– Building a resilient payments ecosystem to combat fraud and scams in the AI era.

Adeline Kim, Visa’s Group Country Manager for Regional Southeast Asia, emphasised the importance of maintaining consumer trust as AI transforms commerce. “By working together across the ecosystem, we can enable innovation, strengthen resilience, and ensure consumers and businesses continue to participate in the digital economy with confidence,” she stated.

The roadmap arrives at a crucial time, with digital payments expanding alongside Singapore’s digital economy. Despite a decline in reported scam cases, the threat remains significant, with fraudsters increasingly using AI and automation to exploit consumer trust.

Visa’s commitment to security includes deploying over 150 AI and machine learning models globally to detect fraud and optimise authentication. The company will collaborate with regulators, financial institutions, and industry partners to enhance cyber resilience and promote secure payment technologies.

As Singapore’s digital landscape evolves, Visa’s roadmap aims to safeguard the payments ecosystem, ensuring secure and seamless transactions for consumers and businesses alike.
