Singapore’s burgeoning data centre sector is reshaping the job market, creating diverse employment opportunities beyond traditional tech roles, according to Indeed’s latest Hiring Lab data. In August, 4.6% of job postings in Singapore mentioned data centres, a notable increase from 3.5% the previous year, driven by investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
The demand for data centre roles extends beyond software and IT, with software development accounting for 21.6% of postings in the 2025-26 financial year. However, significant hiring also occurred in management (12.4%), industrial engineering (11.3%), mechanical engineering (5.2%), and sales (5.0%). This diverse hiring reflects the wide range of skills needed to support the expansion of data centre facilities.
Despite the overall tightness in Singapore’s labour market, with job postings 38% above pre-pandemic levels, growth remains uneven across sectors. Whilst tech hiring has seen mixed results, with a decline in data and analytics postings, there have been gains in IT systems, software development, and IT infrastructure roles.
The expansion of data centres is expected to continue influencing the job market, potentially increasing wages due to strong demand and limited labour supply. As Singapore invests heavily in data centre capacity, the sector’s growth is likely to sustain job creation across various fields, addressing skill shortages and supporting the country’s economic development.
