ESR, a prominent Asia-Pacific real asset owner and manager, has announced its acquisition of Aquila Clean Energy APAC, a clean energy platform specialising in solar, battery storage, and wind assets. The acquisition from Aquila Group, a Hamburg-based investment firm, will see ESR integrate a 1.6 GW portfolio across key markets in the region, including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
This strategic move positions ESR at the intersection of logistics real estate, data centres, and energy infrastructure, enhancing its ability to offer a diverse range of resilient real asset investment solutions. Phil Pearce, President of ESR, highlighted the significance of the acquisition, stating, “ESR has entered its next phase of growth with a clear focus on the sectors that underpin resilient supply chains, digital economies, and long-term economic development.”
Aquila Clean Energy APAC’s portfolio offers substantial capital deployment and value creation opportunities, complementing ESR’s existing activities in solar and battery storage. Apurv Choudhary, Group Head of Infrastructure at ESR, noted, “Aquila Clean Energy APAC brings an experienced team and a high-quality and diversified renewables portfolio across key Asia-Pacific markets.”
The transaction is expected to be completed by Q1 2027, pending customary closing conditions and approvals. Post-acquisition, ESR plans to collaborate closely with Aquila Clean Energy APAC’s management to accelerate growth and expand investment solutions across its Asia-Pacific platform. Roman Rosslenbroich, CEO of Aquila Group, expressed pride in the platform’s achievements and confidence in ESR as a strong owner for the business.
