The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has announced the commencement of the Future of Finance Institute (FFI), aiming to drive financial innovation with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI). Launched on 3 November 2026, FFI seeks to accelerate the adoption of new financial technologies and foster innovation within the sector.
FFI’s initial focus is on AI in finance, structured around three core pillars: PathFin.ai, BuildFin.ai, and SafeFin.ai. These initiatives aim to unite financial institutions to share AI implementation experiences, develop best practices for agentic AI deployment, and enhance AI risk management. FFI plans to expand into other financial innovation areas, such as tokenisation.
PathFin.ai will establish a Knowledge Hub to broaden AI solutions for financial institutions, validate their practicality, and align them with institutional needs. It will also create Communities of Practice, facilitating discussions on AI adoption challenges across banking, insurance, and other financial sectors.
BuildFin.ai will collaborate with financial institutions, tech companies, and research bodies to develop AI deployment standards and tools, focusing on safe AI agent use in financial services. This builds on the SAFR framework, aiming to establish industry standards and infrastructure.
SafeFin.ai will focus on developing resources and practices for implementing MAS’ AI Risk Management Guidelines. It will enhance the MindForge AI Risk Management Toolkit, addressing AI risk assessments and third-party AI.
Alan Lim has been appointed interim CEO of FFI, continuing his role as Head of Financial Infrastructure and AI Office at MAS. He will lead FFI’s strategy and operations, fostering partnerships across financial and technology ecosystems.
Chia Der Jiun, Managing Director of MAS, highlighted FFI as a collaborative platform for MAS, financial institutions, and technology firms to pool expertise in AI, anchoring key capabilities in Singapore and accelerating innovation.
