Toa Payoh West is set for a significant transformation with the introduction of a new school, over 6,000 homes, and the area’s first shopping mall, as announced by National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat on 31 October. This development is part of a broader initiative to revitalise one of Singapore’s oldest Housing Board towns.
The demand for educational facilities is expected to rise with the introduction of Toa Payoh Hillside, a 1,600-unit Build-To-Order (BTO) project adjacent to Caldecott MRT station. This project, part of the Housing Board’s upcoming sales exercise in November, will contribute to the area’s housing expansion, which will predominantly feature public housing with some private options.
A new mixed-use development, including a shopping mall, will be constructed next to the BTO project. This development aims to establish Toa Payoh West as the town’s “second heart,” complementing the existing Toa Payoh Centre. The Housing Board stated that the development will feature a plaza space for residents to gather and exercise.
The masterplan reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the living environment in Toa Payoh, providing residents with improved amenities and infrastructure. As these plans unfold, the area is poised to become a vibrant hub, offering a blend of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. The introduction of these facilities is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for current and future residents.
