DHL Express and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have extended their collaboration, renewing a crew and maintenance agreement for five Boeing 777 freighters stationed at Singapore Changi Airport. This partnership, which began in 2022, ensures that SIA pilots will continue to operate the freighters, whilst SIA engineers will manage their maintenance.
The renewed agreement is pivotal for DHL’s intercontinental air network, linking its South Asia Hub in Singapore with key destinations in the United States. This connection is crucial for supporting reliable, time-definite express and e-commerce shipments across the Asia-Pacific and global markets.
Travis Cobb, Executive Vice President for Network Operations and Aviation at DHL Express, highlighted the importance of the agreement, stating, “The renewal of this agreement underlines our commitment to building and investing in the network capacity that keeps global trade moving.” He emphasised the role of the Boeing 777 freighters in facilitating swift and reliable shipments.
Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer at Singapore Airlines, remarked on the enduring partnership’s success, saying, “The renewal of our agreement with DHL Express reflects the strength and continuity of our partnership.” He noted that this collaboration reinforces Singapore’s position as a leading air freight hub, particularly in the e-commerce sector.
The Boeing 777 freighters, capable of carrying up to 102 tonnes of cargo, are among the largest and most capable twin-engine freighters globally. This partnership not only enhances DHL’s global aviation capabilities but also anchors more long-haul cargo capacity at Changi, reflecting confidence in the growth of international trade and the importance of air connectivity in global supply chains.
