Franklin Templeton has been chosen by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as an asset manager for its Equity Market Development Programme (EQDP). This initiative aims to bolster Singapore’s local fund management industry and enhance investor participation in the nation’s equities.
The programme will see Franklin Templeton leveraging its investment expertise and global distribution network to connect investors with opportunities in Singapore’s equity market. This move is expected to broaden market participation, attract additional capital, and contribute to the long-term development of the market.
Manraj Sekhon, CEO of Templeton Asset Management and CIO of Templeton Global Investments, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating, “We are delighted with this opportunity to unlock the investment potential of Singapore equities and develop innovative products and structures.” He highlighted Franklin Templeton’s long-standing presence in Singapore and its robust global investment platform as key advantages.
Rene Buehlmann, Head of APAC at Franklin Templeton, remarked on the strategic importance of Singapore as a hub for the company in the Asia Pacific region. He noted, “This appointment reinforces our longstanding commitment to the market and our conviction in its continued growth potential.”
