Singapore’s National Precision Medicine programme is advancing into its third phase, expanding to include 450,000 residents, approximately 10% of the population. This phase, unlike the previous one, will enrol patients with various health conditions across Singapore’s public healthcare clusters. QIAGEN has announced its role in this expansion by supplying sample preparation technology for the SG-INSIGHT study, part of this new phase.
The SG-INSIGHT study is coordinated by Precision Health Research, Singapore (PRECISE) and supported by the Ministry of Health. QIAGEN’s QIAsprint Connect and QIAseq FX DNA Library Kit will automate DNA extraction and library preparation, crucial steps before genome sequencing. This marks the first deployment of QIAGEN’s universal Next-Generation Sequencing products in a nationwide population genomics study.
Justus Krause-Harder, Head of Molecular Tools & Oncology at QIAGEN, highlighted the importance of reliable and scalable workflows in population genomics, stating, “SG-INSIGHT demonstrates the scale at which these capabilities are now required.”
The project underscores QIAGEN’s commitment to supporting large-scale genomic initiatives. Their automated system can process over 3,600 samples weekly, ensuring data consistency and traceability from intake to analysis. This integration aims to meet the operational demands of clinical-grade whole genome sequencing on a national scale.
As genomics moves from research to clinical applications, QIAGEN’s involvement in the SG-INSIGHT project signifies a pivotal step in integrating genomics into Singapore’s healthcare delivery, potentially leading to improved health outcomes and economic opportunities.
