Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) has commenced construction on its third jetty at the SLNG Terminal on Jurong Island, marking a significant expansion in its LNG infrastructure. The groundbreaking ceremony, held today, was attended by SLNG Chairman Gan Seow Kee, CEO Leong Wei Hung, and Roger Chia, Chairman of Rotary Engineering Pte. Ltd.
Jetty 3 is designed to accommodate small and mid-scale LNG vessels, ranging from 5,800m³ to 80,000m³. Upon completion by the second half of 2028, it will support approximately two million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG bunker reload demand. This development aligns with the growing global demand for LNG bunkering infrastructure, as an estimated 1,700 LNG dual-fuelled vessels are expected to operate worldwide by 2029.
In tandem with the construction, the SLNG Terminal has achieved certification under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification EU (ISCC EU) scheme for Bio-LNG handling. This certification covers various services, including storage, regasification, and bunkering, ensuring that Bio-LNG can be traced and accounted for under the ISCC EU framework. This move is set to bolster the maritime and energy sectors’ transition towards lower-carbon fuels.
Leong Wei Hung, CEO of SLNG, stated, “Jetty 3 will strengthen Singapore’s ability to support the next phase of growth and reinforce its position as a leading global bunkering and LNG trading hub.” The new jetty and certification are expected to enhance SLNG’s capacity and operational flexibility, supporting the evolving energy needs of the maritime sector.
