Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Peking Union Medical College Hospital tackle ageing crisis with new MOU

Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 21 August 2026, marking a significant collaboration between the two institutions. The agreement focuses on addressing the healthcare needs of ageing populations in Singapore and China, with initiatives in active ageing, palliative care, rehabilitation services, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

The MOU was signed during PUMCH’s 105th anniversary celebrations and the inaugural TTSH-PUMCH Geriatric Symposium in Beijing. The event was attended by clinicians from both countries, including presentations by TTSH’s geriatric and palliative medicine doctors. The signing was witnessed by David Liang, Deputy Chief of Mission & Minister-Counsellor at the Singapore Embassy in Beijing.

This collaboration aims to foster the exchange of expertise and development of joint research projects, ultimately creating care models that are more accessible and culturally sensitive for older adults in both nations. The partnership reflects a broader commitment to enhancing geriatric and palliative care across Asia.

The MOU underscores the shared challenges faced by Singapore and China in managing their rapidly ageing populations, albeit on different scales. By uniting their efforts, TTSH and PUMCH aim to make significant strides in improving healthcare outcomes for the elderly. The collaboration is expected to pave the way for future innovations in medical education and research, benefiting both countries’ healthcare systems.
