Malaysia Airports and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) have announced a strengthened partnership to advance aviation sustainability, aligning with Malaysia’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The collaboration focuses on sustainable aviation fuel, renewable energy, and resource efficiency to bolster Kuala Lumpur’s status as a leading regional aviation hub.
The announcement was made during Aviation Sustainability Day 2026 at Sama-Sama Hotel, KL International Airport, where industry stakeholders discussed practical decarbonisation strategies. Malaysia Airports Managing Director Mohd Izani Ghani emphasised the need for aligned priorities and investments between airports and airlines to achieve meaningful progress. “Our shared commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s connectivity must now extend to advancing a more sustainable aviation future,” he stated.
MAG’s President and Group CEO, Nasaruddin A. Bakar, highlighted the group’s Mid-Term Sustainability Roadmap, which aims to reduce emissions intensity by up to 45% by 2035. MAG has already achieved milestones such as becoming the first ASEAN airline group certified under IATA’s Sustainable Procurement module and retiring 80,100 CORSIA-eligible emissions units.
Malaysia Airports is also progressing towards its net-zero targets, with initiatives like the KLIA Aeropolis Solar Park, expected to avoid 35,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. These efforts support the Malaysia Aviation Decarbonisation Blueprint and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The collaboration between Malaysia Airports and MAG is set to address the challenges of aviation decarbonisation, paving the way for a more sustainable future in the industry.
