Julius Baer has released a new research report detailing the shift towards Asia as a prime destination for global wealth preservation, with Singapore and Hong Kong emerging as leading safe-haven jurisdictions. The report, titled “Asian safe havens – The growing shift of global safe haven jurisdictions to the East,” highlights how geopolitical uncertainties and the uneven performance of traditional safe-haven assets are prompting wealthy investors to seek jurisdictions offering long-term security.
The report identifies Singapore and Hong Kong as Asia’s top safe-haven jurisdictions, supported by robust institutional frameworks and established financial ecosystems. According to data from Boston Consulting Group, cited in the report, Hong Kong and Singapore ranked first and third globally in cross-border wealth booking flows in 2025. The report also notes Asia’s increasing economic influence, with its share of global nominal GDP rising from 26% in 2006 to 36% in 2025.
Jen-Ai Chua, Equity Research Analyst Asia at Julius Baer, authored the report, which envisions a new global wealth management landscape with two parallel networks: a Western axis anchored by Switzerland, the US, and UK, and an Asian axis centred on Singapore and Hong Kong. The report also highlights Singapore’s institutional stability and Hong Kong’s role as a gateway for mainland Chinese wealth as distinct advantages.
This year marks Julius Baer’s 20th anniversary in Asia, reflecting the region’s evolving wealth landscape. Asia now accounts for about a quarter of Julius Baer’s total assets under management and its global workforce, underscoring its significance as a second home market for the bank.
